ABSTRACT
Bruxism, the involuntary grinding or clenching of teeth, is a condition increasingly prevalent in modern society, with stress identified as a major contributing factor. A comprehensive review of recent studies explores the psychological and physiological mechanisms underlying bruxism, differentiating between its manifestations during sleep and wakefulness. This article examines the intricate relationship between stress and bruxism, focusing on lifestyle determinants such as work-life imbalance, excessive screen time, and unhealthy behaviors. The health implications of bruxism are severe, including enamel wear, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, headaches, and disrupted sleep patterns. Diagnostic challenges persist due to the multifaceted nature of the condition, but advances in treatment offer promising results. Effective management strategies discussed include stress-reduction techniques, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and dental interventions such as occlusal splints. The article emphasizes the importance of interdisciplinary approaches that combine dental, psychological, and medical expertise to provide holistic care for individuals with bruxism.Furthermore, the discussion underscores the societal implications of chronic stress as a driver of bruxism, advocating for early detection and comprehensive treatment strategies. Future research should prioritize refining diagnostic tools and evaluating the long-term efficacy of integrated treatment methods. Additionally, public health initiatives aimed at stress management and raising awareness of lifestyle factors impacting oral health are critical to preventing bruxism on a broader scale. By addressing the root causes of stress and promoting healthier behaviors, it is possible to mitigate the impact of this increasingly common condition, contributing to improved overall health and well-being.
